As the individual owner, I adhere to the following Privacy Policy and the policies of the trusted third-party service providers and creators I engage with.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact Forms
Data submitted through our contact forms is collected solely for the purpose of responding to your inquiry or providing the services you requested. This information is not used for marketing purposes unless you explicitly opt-in to a newsletter or other communication. We retain contact form submissions until the account cancelled by customer, for customer service purposes.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
🤝 Who We Share Your Data With
We are deeply committed to safeguarding the privacy and sensitive content of our readers and customers. We do not share specific client-submitted content or confidential communications without your express consent.
However, in order to operate this website, fulfill orders, and maintain security, we must share limited, necessary data with trusted third parties:
- Platform Providers (WordPress/Automattic): As this site is built and hosted using WordPress, certain technical data—including IP addresses for spam detection and data related to your use of their services (like Gravatar, as mentioned in the Comments section)—is processed by Automattic (the company behind WordPress).
- Affiliate and E-commerce Partners: When you purchase a book or any merchandise through links on our site, the necessary transaction details are shared with the relevant partners to fulfill your order:
- Book Retailers: If you click an affiliate link to purchase a book (e.g., via Amazon or other stores), your data is processed by that retailer.
- Fulfillment Partners: For exclusive goods (like the silk pajamas or shoes), we share only the shipping information required by our dropshipping or fulfillment partners to deliver your purchased items.
- Art Platforms: Orders for art prints are handled by platforms like Fine Art America, and your payment/shipping data is processed by them.
- Analytics and Security Services: We use tools (such as Google Analytics and site security services) to measure site performance and detect threats. These services receive anonymized or aggregated data that helps us understand visitor traffic patterns without identifying you personally.
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, a court order, or a government investigation, we will disclose personal data as necessary to comply with such requirements.
Note: If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the automated reset email process.
⏳ How Long We Retain Your Data
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which we collected it, including for satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.1
The retention periods vary depending on the type of data and its purpose:
- Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata (name, email, timestamp, and content) are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a manual moderation queue.
- Registered Users: For users who register on our website (if user registration is enabled), we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. This data is retained as long as the user account remains active.
- Customer Records (E-commerce): Information related to product purchases and financial transactions (e.g., invoices, shipping records, communication regarding orders) is retained for ten years to comply with financial and tax laws.
- Contact Form Submissions: We retain submissions sent through our contact and inquiry forms for a period of six months to manage customer service records and follow up on advisory inquiries.
- Security Logs: Security and spam prevention logs (like failed login attempts and IP addresses) are typically retained for a short period to protect the website’s security.
⚖️ What Rights You Have Over Your Data
We respect your right to access and control the personal data we hold about you. Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to Access: If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
- Right to Erasure (Right to Be Forgotten): You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.
Please Note: This right to erasure does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes (such as financial transaction records, which must be retained for tax purposes).
Where Your Data is Sent
Data Transfer: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Furthermore, as we utilize international partners for some of our e-commerce and analytics services (e.g., platforms for Fine Art America or fulfillment for luxury goods), your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside of the United States. We take steps to ensure that any international transfer of data complies with applicable privacy laws.
