The Little Boat: A Log

August 23, 2026

Entry 005 · Day 5 of 30

Date: Sunday, August 23rd.

Location: Church, and the long conversation after it. The kind that happens standing up, near the door, while other people are leaving.

Weather: cloudy. It was raining in the early morning.

Direction: Toward people rather than buildings. There were faces there this morning that have known this story since the first page of it, no explaining required, no starting over. I asked for help. Two things plainly: work, and a strong lawyer. Asking out loud is its own kind of progress.

Obstacles: The habit of not asking. Time, which does not stop being short because it is Sunday. And the part of this I keep off the page, which does not get lighter by being unwritten.

Accomplishments: I asked. I was heard. There may be plans now that have more than one person in them, and that is different from anything I have had in a while.

Q. What does a Sunday do to a case that only moves on weekdays?

A. It moves the other half. Offices are closed, so nothing official happened today, and something more useful did. Paper waits until Monday. People don't.

Q. What did you ask for?

A. Work, and a lawyer who is not tired. I have stopped dressing up the request. If you know of either, you know where to find me.

From the old charts. What was the household's own private word for something? Every family has one.

A. On the manner of D - day we kept scary words out of our ears. Instead we could say "F-word" or "K-word". If you cannot guess what K-word is, it is "k.i.l.l". If there was something about K-word on TV we shut the sound on the TV off and when kids asked why, we say, "they speak about K-word". Kids knew that it is better not to speak it out loud.

Good night! It is 12:28 am the next day now. I thought I published it already but it turned that I didn't, and I had to type the whole thing back again.

Talk to you in the day time.

P.S.

This site costs $70 a month to keep online. If my poetry, my songs, or this log are worth something to you, you can support the work directly, $HotSpotMommy. Seven readers at $10 keeps it up for another month.

Good night again! ✨
