Exodus 20:4-5

Let’s continue! Today’s scripture to discuss is Exodus 20:4-5.
Through Christ, We Know the Father
Exodus 20:4-5 states:
“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.”
At first glance, this passage may seem harsh, describing God as jealous. Yet, when we look deeper—through the teachings of Jesus Christ—it takes on a much richer meaning.
Jesus said, “No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) This statement reveals the divine mystery of connection: it is through Jesus Christ that we come to know God as our Father. He is not a distant or punitive God but a loving Creator who desires us to be His children.
If we turn away from Christ and place other gods—whether material, ideological, or even emotional idols—before Him, the mystery of divine inheritance does not unfold. The Gospel is a sacred path that reveals the miracles of eternal life, forgiveness through repentance, eternal families, health, and countless blessings. When we follow Christ, we walk in His light and align ourselves with our Heavenly Father’s will. But if we reject Him, we step into spiritual confusion—losing our way, losing our divine protection, and allowing conflicting forces to influence our lives.
This is not about punishment—it is about consequence. God is love, and He never forces Himself upon us. He calls, He invites, but He does not coerce. When we willingly embrace His truth through Christ, we inherit His promises. When we choose to walk another way, we distance ourselves from that divine protection. This confusion can ripple through generations, influencing not only our lives but those of our children and grandchildren.
Jesus Christ is the key to spiritual clarity. Through Him, we are healed, redeemed, and strengthened. By keeping His Gospel close to our hearts, we are safeguarded from deception, blessed with understanding, and surrounded by divine love.
Let us always remember that our Heavenly Father is not an angry ruler watching for our failures—He is a loving God who has given us a Savior to lead us back to Him. May we honor that truth, remain steadfast in faith, and always seek Christ so that we may fully inherit the miraculous blessings prepared for us.
