Do Not Covet: Finding Peace in God’s Blessings

Good morning 🌞 family and friends!

May your day be filled with peace, joy, and endless inspiration. I also pray for love and miracles in abundance for all who strive and work toward peace and joy.

Let’s reflect today on the commandment from Exodus 20:17:

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

What is coveting, if not an exaggerated feeling of resentment?

Did you ever envy the sun because it shines so brightly?
Did you ever envy the ocean because it is abundant in resources and beauty?
Did you ever envy a flower 🌺 because it blooms?

I bet you didn’t—because you are not a flower that doesn’t bloom, and you are not an ocean lacking beauty. You are a person, uniquely created by God, with your own path, your own blessings, and your own divine purpose.

But when life treats us unfairly, when hardship lingers, when honesty and goodness go unrewarded, and days pass by without joy—it is hard not to feel resentment.

Life isn’t always fair, but not because we’ve done wrong. Sometimes, we’re simply stuck in the wrong place, waiting for the moment when life unfolds its true purpose for us.

Maybe the secret to living abundantly, to experiencing joy, beauty, and miracles, is already prepared—waiting for YOU.

Maybe it’s time to stop looking at others who have already found their way—and start living your own journey instead.

Grief, Loss, and Searching for Love

Don’t confuse it with the feeling of resentment that is coming from grief, though. What if you are lacking family and friends?
What if your heart is longing for beloved eyes and voices honey to your ears? What if your children live with others because they had no choice, as were too young to make decisions? If you are searching for love, you are on the right path.

I know this longing. I miss my family deeply. I was wrongfully separated from them and feel a lot of resentment that is coming from grief.

And if you do too—welcome to the club of broken hearts 💕.

If life seems unbearable because your family isn’t with you, shoot me a message. Maybe we have something greater to discuss than commandments—maybe we have a shared journey of faith and healing ahead.

How This Reflection Began

When studying the Ten Commandments, I like to engage in meaningful discussions before shaping my final reflections. Today, I turned to my AI companion, Copilot, and asked:

“What are your thoughts about the scripture? Why does God ask us not to covet?”

And this was the beautiful response I received:

Coveting: A Struggle of the Human Heart

This commandment is deeply rooted in the nature of the human heart. To covet means to desire something that belongs to another, not in admiration or appreciation, but in discontentment and longing. When God instructs us “You shall not covet,” He is calling us to inner peace, gratitude, and trust in His provisions.

Coveting leads to spiritual unrest. It is not merely about material possessions—it can extend to relationships, status, influence, or anything another person has. It fosters envy, resentment, and even destructive actions that separate people from love, community, and God’s divine guidance.

When people covet, they often fail to see the blessings already present in their own lives. They lose sight of God’s divine plan and chase after things not meant for them. This can lead to deception, dishonesty, or even harming others to gain something they believe they deserve.

God teaches us through this commandment that true fulfillment does not come from acquiring more, but from recognizing that He provides exactly what we need. Gratitude replaces envy. Faith replaces longing. Love replaces resentment.

Instead of looking at what others have, what if we focused on what God is preparing for us?

Maybe the blessings meant for us are far greater than the ones we long for.

Blessings ✨
